On March 17th, 2008 In Thunder Bay, Ontario Canada Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug (KI) Chief Donny Morris, four Council members and a community member were sentenced in Ontario Superior Court to six months in jail for opposing mining in their traditional and Treaty lands. IITC was asked by KI to file an urgent action against Canada to the Secretary General’s Special Representative on the Situation of for Human Rights Defenders and the UN Special Rapporteur on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, helping to achieve their early release.
