January 28, 2023
8 AM – 10 AM Mountain Standard Time (Find your time zone here)
This Independent Forum for Indigenous Peoples was established during our struggle to achieve effective participation in the United Nations Food Systems Summit (UNFSS) in 2021. Its focus has been information sharing and discussion of strategies to strengthen the self-determined participation of Indigenous Peoples in UN bodies impacting our Food Systems, Food Sovereignty and Right to Food. The 6th meeting of the Forum was held on August 2022. Since that time several important international meetings and conferences have taken place and preparations have begun for Indigenous Peoples’ participation in the UN Water Conference. Reports, presentations and discussions at this session will include:
- UNFCCC COP 27
- CBD COP 15
- THE UN FAO AND WHO JOINT MEETING ON PESTICIDES MANAGEMENT
- THE UN WATER CONFERENCE AND INDIGNEOUS PEOPLES PRE-SUMMITT
- WIPO 42ND INTERGOVERNMENTAL COMMITTEE ON TRADITIONAL KNOWLEDGE GENETIC RESOURCES AND TRADITIONAL CULTURAL EXPRESSIONS
- UN COMMITTEE ON FOOD SECURITY CIVIL SOCIETY AND INDIGENOUS PEOPLES MECHANISM
We will also share some words to honor the passing of Chris Honahnie, the previous coordinator for these session. This meeting is open to all Indigenous Peoples, with a special invitation to Indigenous food producers and knowledge holders, youth, and elders.
Interpretation will be provided in English, Spanish, Portuguese, French and Russian as requested.
