An IITC delegation is engaging the 17th session of the Expert Mechanism on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (EMRIP) this week in Geneva. EMRIP provides the Human Rights Council with expertise and advice on the rights of Indigenous Peoples. It assists Member States in achieving the goals of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. IITC representative Juan Leon Alvarado, Guatemala, and Sadie Heckenberg, National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Higher Education Consortium, Australia, were elected co-chairs of the Indigenous Peoples Caucus preceding the session.
