Message from IITC Board President

IITC Board President Ron Lameman, who sits for Treaties 1-11 on IITC’s Board of Directors, was the Chairman/Moderator for the 2025 Treaties 1-11 annual gathering, August 18-22, Tsuut’ina Nation in Treaty No. 7 Territory
On behalf of the IITC Board of Directors, I once again express my sincere appreciation to our funders, friends and allies whose solidarity and generosity helped us to carry out IITC’s important work in 2025. This was a difficult year for IITC as several of our Board members, including myself, experienced serious health difficulties. The prayers and words of support we received from our friends and colleagues from near and far helped us to pull through during the hard times. We and our families will always be grateful for your thoughts and best wishes.
As we move forward into the new year, we know that we are facing difficult times as the political climate and the impacts that our Peoples continue to experience are only getting worse in many countries. There is no doubt that we are facing powerful adversaries who do not respect our inherent rights as Indigenous Peoples, our Treaty rights, or human rights in general. But IITC remains more committed and determined than ever to continue working in support of Indigenous Peoples’ struggles to defend our lands and waters, environmental health, food sovereignty, cultures, and ways of life.
In closing, I want to send you all my best wishes and prayers for a healthy and productive year to come. I also want to personally thank and congratulate our Executive Director, staff, Board members and affiliates for their continued hard work, courage and dedication on behalf of our Peoples, Mother Earth and the coming generations.
It continues to be an honor for me and for all of us to continue serving our Peoples in this way.
Ay Hy,
Ron Lameman,
Beaver Lake Cree Nation, Treaties 1-11 President, IITC Board of Directors
