 This Independent Forum for Indigenous Peoples was established during our struggle to achieve effective participation in the United Nations Food Systems Summit (UNFSS) in 2021.  It was expanded to include a focus on water at the Indigenous Peoples Pre-Summit for the UN Water Conference in March 2023. Its focus is information-sharing and discussion of strategies and opportunities to strengthen the self-determined participation of Indigenous Peoples in UN bodies impacting our Food Systems, Food Sovereignty and Right to Food. At this 10th virtual meeting participants will report on several recent international events and provide updates about upcoming events related to Indigenous Peoples Food Sovereignty.
Updates will include:
- Outcomes of CBD COP 16 in Cali, Colombia
- Work at UN FAO: Committees on Fisheries and Agriculture sessions in 2024
- Regional reports: Pacific, Arctic, North and Latin America fisheries work
- Preparation for UNFCCC COP 29 in Baku, Azerbaijan
- Report-back from the Indigenous Peoples Summit on Just Transition
- Indigenous Peoples at the UNFCCC Santiago Network on Loss and Damage
- Opportunities for participation in the 3rd Nyéléni Global Forum on Food Sovereignty (September 2025)
