On October 8, 2021, the 48th session of United Nations Human Rights Council established a new UN Special Rapporteur on the promotion and protection of human rights in the context of climate change. On April 1st, 2022 the Council appointed Dr. Ian Fry, former Ambassador for Climate Change and Environment for the government of Tuvalu, to serve in this role for the next three years.
