The Indigenous Peoples’ Forum on Food Sovereignty was established in 2021 and expanded to include water sovereignty by Indigenous Peoples at the 2023 UN Water Conference.  It focusses on information-sharing, strategies and opportunities to strengthen our self-determined participation in UN bodies and processes impacting  our food and water Sovereignty. The 13th virtual meeting will focus on Indigenous Peoples’ international work to protect water and including:  

  • Protection of Indigenous Peoples’ small-scale fisheries and fishing ways of life at the FAO Committee on Fisheries and in our homelands
  • The UN High Seas Treaty: protecting Oceans as sources of life and food for the planet, and Indigenous Peoples’ role in implementing BBNJ   
  • Planning for the 2026 UN Water Conference
  • Growing threats to our water sources from “transition minerals” mining and AI Data Centers
  • UN Processes addressing toxic contamination by mercury and plastics
  • Discussion and Questions
