This independent Indigenous Peoples Forum was established to promote our effective participation in the UN Food Systems Summit in 2021 and was extended to include water sovereignty in 2023. It focuses on information-sharing and discussion of strategies and opportunities to strengthen our self-determined participation in UN bodies where our food and water Sovereignty are impacted. At this 12th virtual meeting, topics will include:
- Protection of Indigenous Peoples small-scale fisheries and fishing ways of life
- Amending the International Code of Conduct on Pesticides at the UN Committee on Agriculture
- Climate Change: the UNFCCC Working Group on Agriculture and Food Systems; advances at COP 30 on “Just Transition”; impacts of “transition minerals” mining on Indigenous Peoples’ Food and Water systems
- Updates from the Conference on Agrarian Reform and Rural Development (ICARRD 2) in Cartagena Colombia, February 2026
- The UN Committee on Food Security and Civil Society and Indigenous Peoples Mechanism: updates and upcoming work
- The UN High Seas Treaty: protection of Oceans as sources of life and food for the planet and Indigenous Peoples’ role in implementation of BBNJ
