Ali Aii Shatu y Saúl Vicente Vásquez, nuevos representantes de los Pueblos Indígenas elegidos al Mecanismo de la Sociedad Civil (MSC) en el Comité de Seguridad Alimentaria Mundial (CSA)

Desde 2009, el Consejo Internacional de Tratados Indios (CITI) ha sido la organización que coordina el proceso para la nominación de dos representantes de los Pueblos Indígenas al Mecanismo de la Sociedad Civil en el Comité de Seguridad Alimentaria Mundial, mismos que formarán parte de su Comité Coordinador.

Basado en los resultados del proceso que llevó a cabo CITI con participación de organizaciones y Pueblos Indígenas de las varias regiones del mundo, el Comité Coordinador del MSC ha confirmado dos representantes Indígenas para su 1er término en el Comité Coordinador del MSC representando al Sector de los Pueblos Indígenas:

1) Ali Aii Shatu, Región de África, mujer del Pueblo Indígena Mbororo de Camerún, recomendado por el Comité Coordinador de los Pueblos Indígenas de África (IPACC, por sus siglas en inglés); y:

2) Saúl Vicente Vásquez, Región de América Latina & El Caribe, varón del Pueblos Indígena Zapoteca de México, recomendado por la Unidad de la Fuerza Indígena Campesina (UFIC).

CITI agradece a todos los que participaron en este proceso. Continuaremos trabajando juntos para fortalecer las voces de los Pueblos Indígenas del mundo en el CSA-MSC, incluyendo la diseminación de información sobre oportunidades para participación en las áreas temáticas de enfoque del MSC y aumentando la coordinación entre el proceso de este organismo, el Comité Internacional de Planificación (CIP) y otros procesos relacionados a la soberanía y seguridad alimentaria en la ONU como la FAO y la Agenda de Desarrollo Sustentable 2030.

CITI también agradece profundamente a Taina Hedman (Guna, Panamá) y a Anaru Fraser (Maorí, Nueva Zelanda) por sus labores tan importante a favor de los Pueblos Indígenas en su cargo como integrantes del MSC que está concluyendo ahora. Los nuevos integrantes estarán participando en las reuniones del MSC y en la 44º sesión del CSA durante los días 3 al 12 de octubre del presente año.

Two New Representatives of the Indigenous Peoples are elected to the Civil Society Mechanism (CSM) in the Committee on World Food Security

(CFS)

Since 2009, the International Indian Treaty Council (IITC) has been the organization that coordinates the process for the nomination of two representatives of Indigenous Peoples to the Civil Society Mechanism in the Committee on World Food Security, which will be part of its Coordinating Committee.

Based on the results of the CITI process involving Indigenous organizations and peoples from the various regions of the world, the CSM Coordinating Committee has confirmed two Indigenous representatives for their first term in the CSM Coordinating Committee representing the Indigenous Peoples:

1) Ali Aii Shatu, African Region, a Mbororo woman of Cameroon,

recommended by the Indigenous Peoples of Africa

Co-ordinating Committee (IPACC); y

2) Saúl Vicente Vásquez, Latin American Region & The Caribbean, male of the

Indigenous Zapoteca Peoples de México, recommended by the Unit of the

Indigenous Peasant Force (UFIC).

CITI thanks all those who participated in this process. We will continue to work together to strengthen the voices of the world’s Indigenous Peoples in the CFS-CSM, including in the dissemination of information on opportunities for participation in the thematic focus areas of the CSM and increasing coordination between the process of this body, the International Planning Committee (IPC), and other processes related to UN food sovereignty and security, such as FAO and the Sustainable Development Agenda 2030.
