Terre des Hommes and Human Rights Watch sent a letter calling upon the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child to draft a General Comment on Child Rights and the Environment. The co-signers believe that a General Comment on Child Rights and the Environment would provide much-needed guidance on state obligations and business responsibilities, convey the relevance of the Convention on the Rights of the Child to environmental policy makers, and help strengthen linkages between largely separate fields of child rights and the environment.

The need for such a General Comment was highlighted during the Sept 2016 Day of General Discussion on Child Rights and the Environment, and the June 2017 the Expert Consultation by Special Rapporteur John Knox. International Indian Treaty Council (IITC) is a signatory on the letter.
